O. T. LUND

O. T. Lund, one of the old residents of Lyle, passed away Saturday afternoon at the hospital at Albert Lea, where he went for an operation for gall stones. When he left Lyle last week he bade his friends good bye for he seemingly, like the man of old, had received the warning, "Set your house in order for ye shall die and not live." Every arrangement for disposition of property etc., had been made and his hope for life and health were at low ebb.

O. T. Lund, son of Thor and Ingeborg Gunnielson, was born at Holden Norway, Sept. 1, 1848, being the youngest of ten children. He received his early education near Skien and at 15 years of age learned the tailor trade in the same city. In the spring of the year 1868, following the death of his father, he left for America, accompanied by his mother and sister, and upon arriving here located in Columbia County, Wisconsin. In April 1869 he went to Chicago where he pursued English studies and followed his trade until 1882. Mr. Lund was married in Chicago in August 1872 to Emma Olson, who died at Lyle March 1st, 1884. This union was blessed by three children; Ida Oscar and Matilda. The two latter died while young and Ida died while a student at Sioux Falls, S. D. In the year 1882, he came to Mower County locating at Lyle where he has been in the general merchandise business for 31 years. His mother passed away in 1888. Mr. Lund was married at Lyle August 30th 1886 to Andrine Ashlesen. To them six children were born; Ruth (deceased); Ruth, Cora, Alice, Thorman and Rebecca. Mrs. Karen Jenson of Minneapolis, Minn., is his only surviving sister.

Mr. Lund was an enthusiastic member of the Synod Lutheran church and it has been mainly thru his efforts that services have been held here from time to time. He was a great lover of his home and family and gave liberally of his time and money for benevolent and other worthy objects. He was for a number of years a member of the Board of Trustees of Luther Academy at Albert Lea and has various times held positions of trust on the council, school board, etc. He was a good business man and many who had traded at his store for years and learned to rely on his judgement and his square business dealing. He will be greatly missed in Lyle where he was in the mercantile business for over a quarter of a century and by many his memory will be cherished, altho the place which has known him so long shall know him no more.

The remains were laid to rest in the Six Mile Grove cemetery. The funeral service was conducted by Pastors Forde, Lee, Sauer and was attended by a large number of friends. Among those from away were his sister and her daughter of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Myhre and Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Myhre of Estherville, Ia., and a cousin of Mrs. Lund's from Elbow Lake, Minn.
