Funeral services were held in Minneapolis Wednesday, February 24 for a former Mona resident, Ben Steene, age, 83.
He died at his home in Minneapolis Monday February 22 following a five week's illness from a stroke.
Services were held at Werness Funeral Home and interment was in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. I. O. Jacobson
officiating.
Ben Steene, the son of Jens and Annie Steene was born in Norway 29, 1894, and came to this country with his parents and two sisters and three
brothers when he was twelve years of age. He attended the Mona school and was confirmed in the Mona Lutheran church by the Rev. J. M. Eggen.
He grew to manhood in the Mona area where his parents settled when they came from Norway. He was employed as a farm laborer in the area until his marriage to Emma Lee at Hayfield, Minn. October 14, 1908.
Later he was employed at Rochester and then in Minneapolis where he was an engineer for the Northland Creamery until his retirement a few years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Emma; two brothers, Andrew and Bert Steene of Lyle; two sisters, Mrs. James (Emma) Sorenson, Maple Plain, Minn. and Miss Gladys Steene of Lyle.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Irvin and a daughter-in-law, Alice; also a brother, Halvor and a sister, Mrs. Theo (Clara) Tieman.
Attending the funeral from this area were Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Steene, Bert and Gladys Steene, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Haugen, and John and Louise Sandvig.
