Webster Johnson, 87, of Lyle, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center, Austin.

He was born Dec. 25, 1915, to John O. and Mathilda (Arneson) Johnson in Lyle.

He graduated from Lyle High School in 1934, attended the University of Minnesota for three years then returned to Lyle to farm. He began a dairy operation and delivered milk door to door in Lyle. Later he raised beef cattle and crop farmed.

On Jan. 14, 1940, he married Marlys Richardson. They had seven children.

Webster served on the Lyle School Board, was a Mower County Commissioner, former member of Lyle Lions Club and member of Lyle Legion. He was a lifelong member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle where he was baptized, confirmed and married.

He enjoyed playing cards, watching sporting events and spending time with family. He also enjoyed traveling and spent 15 winters in McAllen, Texas.

Survivors include wife, Marlys; sons, John (Dolly) Johnson, Lyle; Roger (Maryann) Johnson, West St. Paul; Douglas (Jane) Johnson, Cottage Grove; Jerry (JoAnn) Johnson, Corcoran; daughters, Judith (Donald) Ransom, Lyle; Jacqueline (Dennis) Miller, Mankato; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lawrence, Odin and Chester; and a son, Robert.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today, Jan. 21, 2003, at the funeral home and Wednesday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle with the Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Casket bearers will be Daniel Ransom, Jason Johnson, Todd Johnson, Mathew Johnson, Gregory Johnson and Christopher Miller.

Interment: Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona, Iowa.
