J.D.Converse, a very enterprising young man, editor of the Lyle Mirror, is among the new comers of this city. He moved here May 1, 1889, and commenced the publication of his paper; a wide-awake and good Republican, in every way worthy of success.
J.J. While, the popular landlord of the railroad eating house, is one of the most jovial landlords found on the line; is a crank on the subject of building railroads, and entertains his guest with that same chestnut. He is a good fellow and a great joker, liked by all.
E.H.Ahrens, at the meat market, is a native of Germany, was born December, 1844, came to our city and engaged in business in 1883, and during his short stay has been a very prominent man in all public enterprises and has been in the city council and held several positions of trust.
Capt. Wm. Stanley, druggist, was born in New York city, June 5, 1831, and received a common school education. In 1849 he embarked as a sailor on the Greenland whaler, McClellan, of New London, Conn. He has visited India, Africa and Australia, China, South America and California. He enlisted as a private June 28,1855, in the 10th regiment United States infantry, under Col. E. B. Alexander. He re-enlisted May 1, 1860, appointed regiment sergeant May or June, 1861; appointed regiment adjutant Nov. 7, 1863; promoted to captain May, 1867; stationed at Ft. Layette, N.Y.H. In August, 1875, he removed his family to Lyle and opened an office as collection agent and general conveyancer, etc. He is a good sharp business man and a good story-teller.
L.W. Sherman, lumberman, was born in Mayville, Chautauqua Co., N.Y. came to this city in 1871, and worked as agent for Bassett, Hunting & Co. buying grain. He soon became engaged in the lumber business. He owns a farm of 217 acres near the city and is a wide awake business mane.
John O. Myhre, general merchant, is a native of Norway, where he was born May 13, 1843. His younger days were spent on the farm. When 18 years of age he landed in this country. He spent most of his time at school, and found occupation at Deborah, Iowa, where he worked as clerk in a general store until 1870, when he came to Lyle and engaged in business. He is now a leading dry good merchant, and a whole-souled fellow.
A.H.Anderson, hardware dealer, is a man of good business qualities; he has been a resident of this place for eight years, and has made himself known in all public affairs as a jolly good fellow.
Andrew O. Myhre, merchant, a native of Norway, came to Lyle in 1872 and engaged as clerk, from whence he has arisen, and now owns a large general store and is doing a large business, superintended by himself.
