Sam Strand was born in Wraadal, Telemarken, Norway November 14, 1856. He came to America, with his parents, brothers and sisters in 1861. They located at Stoughton, Wis., where the family resided until 1886 when they moved to Mitchell County, Iowa, and purchased a farm three miles southeast of Mona. There Mr. Strand grew to manhood. About twenty years ago, Sam moved to Mona, and lived with his brother John, until a short time ago, when, due to ill health, he was taken to a private home in Osage, Iowa., for care.

The deceased was a faithful member of the Lutheran church. He leaves to mourn his death, one brother John of Mona, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews. Death called him to his reward Friday, Oct. 22, 1937.

Funeral services were at the Mona church, Monday Oct. 25, at 2 P. M., Rev. Langehough officiating. Interment was at Pleasant Hill cemetery.
