Old Settler Gone.
Halvor Springen, of Mona, one of the oldest settlers of Otranto township, Mitchell county, died at his home four miles south of Mona last Friday morning after an illness of about six weeks. Mr. Springen settled in Otranto township forty-one years ago soon after his return from California where he went with others during the great gold craze of 1848-1850. He leaves a wife and eight children, five sons and three daughters, Jim, Chris, Nels, Halvor, Carl, Christina. Mrs. Olaus Grove and Julia, all of whom are now grown up. The funeral services were held Monday at the St. Ansgar church by Rev. Olson and the interment made the St. Ansgar cemetery. The bereft family have the sympathy of all.
