OBITUARY

Nels Anton Johnson was born in Haaber, Norway, Jan. 25th 1842. There he was baptized, received his childhood training and renewed his baptismal covenant at confirmation, thus entering his name upon the records of the state church of his father land. At the age of twenty-five, the 20th of April, 1867 he was united in wedlock to Gena Thommason. They remained in the land of their birth about 14 years after their marriage, when they decided to try their fortune in the land of promise in the far west, across the Atlantic. They reached the shores of America June 13th, 1881 and settled at Mona, Iowa where they have since remained. They were blessed with a large family of children of which one, Tina Theresa died at the age of nine.

Mr. Johnson carried with him from Norway the qualification of ambition that was so necessary for the maintenance of such a large family. During all the hardships of pioneer life, he remained loyal to the land of his birth and was at the same time true to the principles of the land of his adoption. About one year ago Mr. Johnson was taken sick and has since more or less been confined to the bed, until the 4th of August, when he passed away to realms of the unknown. He is survived by the widow, nine children and 16 grandchildren. The children are located as follows: John at St. Paul, Mrs. Gay Larson, Seattle, Wash.; Johnny of Heimdahl, N. D.; Mrs. Roy Cole, Tioga, N.D.; Mrs. L. Ross, Lemont, Ia, Carl, George, Adolph and Miss Helga in this vicinity.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. A. Elmer Moe, interment was made in Pleasant Hill- Contributed
