OBITUARY

During the past week the messenger of death has visited many homes. The solemn notes of the church bells are but warnings to all that while we are in life we are also in the midst of death. Death is any enemy from whom all shrink. It is not only those who are battle-scarred and have carried on the battle in the front ranks but also those who have stood loyally by, the home, the church and the family alter that should receive the plaudits of "well done." The mother in the home often sacrifices more than those who are active with the affairs of the world, and often does more to enable and direct posterity. Many men have realized in mature life that heritage, in having a godly and saintly mother.

Martha Thompson was born July 2nd, 1847 in Sogendahl, Norway. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the same place. She was united in marriage to Knute Thompson, Oct. 16, 1873. They emigrated to this country in 1880 and settled in Mitchell County, where she has lived ever since.

This union was blessed by eight children: Ella of Malta, Mont., Mrs. Ole Onnestad of South Range, Wis., Oscar of Lyle, Adolph and one adopted daughter, Josie, both at home.

She is also survived by three brothers; Eric, Andrew and Jens Bjork; two sisters, Mrs. Opheim and Mrs. Anderson; five grand children and one great grand child.

Mrs. Thompson had been sick for the past four years, being confined to her bed for three and half years. She passed peacefully away, Thursday evening June 2nd at 9:50 having attained the age of 84 years and 11 months.

The funeral was held at the house, Sunday at 1:30 P.M., and at Mona church at 2 P. M., Rev Langehough officiating.
