Mads Peterson

Mads Peterson, one of the early settlers of this community, passed away June 19th 1917, at the age of 87 years and 8 days. The deceased was born in Langeland, Denmark, June 11th, 1830, and spent his childhood and youth in his native land.

In 1860 he was married to Johanna Hanson, also of Langeland, who died June 30th 1866, leaving 3 small children. On Dec. 8th, 1866, he was united in marriage to Anna Marie Hanson, and two years later they came to America, settling in St. Ansgar, where Mr. Peterson worked at his trade as a blacksmith for two and a half years.

In 1871 the family moved to Otranto Township where Mr. Peterson purchased a farm which was his home until the time of his death. Besides the widow, the deceased is also survived by three daughters and four grandchildren. The daughters are Mrs. Lydia A. Chapin of Detroit, Minn., Mrs. Anna D. Lucas of Havre, Mont., and Mrs. Tina S. Hanson of Lyle.

The funeral was held Friday afternoon.
