Funeral services for Chris Nelson, 72, who died Saturday, November 5, of a heart attack at his home in Mona, were held Tuesday, November 8, at the Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. Stanford Stenson officiating.

Chris Nelson, the son of the late Christian and Marianna Nelson, was born December 28, 1882 on a farm near Mona. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Mona Lutheran church. He attended school in Mona.

February 18, 1915, he was united in marriage to Mary Olson. To this union one son was born who died in infancy. Mr. Nelson spent his entire life in the Mona community with the exception of several years spent on a homestead in Nebraska. He worked for many years as a farm hand and after that was employed by the Milwaukee and Illinois Central railroads, from which he later retired. He was also employed as a janitor at the Mona school. He was a kind friend and neighbor and always willing to lend a helping a hand.

Mr. Nelson suffered a slight stroke in 1949 from which he never recovered. Since June of this year he had been in failing health until his fatal heart attack.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary. His is survived by one brother, Peter, of Mona, three half brothers, Harris and Claire of California and Jens of Montana; also two half sisters, Julia (Mrs. Grant Gullickson) of Alabama and Daisy of Glenwood, Iowa; also may nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery near Mona with Rev. Stenson in charge of the committal services.

Those attending the funeral from away were Mr. and Mrs. William Phillips of Kimball, Nebraska, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Laylon of Bushnell, Nebraska, Mr. and Mrs. George Keldson of Duluth, Minneasota; also from St. Ansgar, and Carpenter, Iowa, and Austin and Conger, Minn.
