J A Thorstad Laid to
Rest at Mona Sunday

John Andrew Thorstad was born on a farm in Mitchell county Iowa on April 13th 1872. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Mona church until the Lyle Lutheran church was built, at which time he transferred his membership to the Lyle church.

On June 22, 1898, he was united in marriage to Petra Louise Peterson and to this union was born one son, [illegible:Marvin or Irvin?] and two daughters, Palma and Evelyn. The daughter, Evelyn, passed away at the age of 3 months, [illegible: ?] days.

The family lived on the home farm two miles east of Mona, until March 1909 when they moved to Lyle, Minn. In 1927 they moved to St. Paul, Minn where he resided until his death at 2 P M, July 24, 1941 at the age of 69 years, 4 months and 11 days.

Except for four years when he was engaged in the oil business in Lyle, Mr. Thorstad spent his life, working at his trade as carpenter.

Mr. Thorstad was always very civic minded, and an earnest church worker, having served for a number of years as secretary of the Mona church, a trustee of the Lyle church, and as a member of the Lyle Village council. During recent years he has been as active member of the Reformation Lutheran church of St. Paul.

Mr. Thorstad is survived by his widow, Petra L Thorstad of St. Paul, a daughter, Mrs. Allen T Cole of Mulberry, Florida a son, Orvin J. Thorstad of St. Paul, a sister, Mrs. Ella Miles of Battle Lake, Minn., and a brother Oliver A Thorstad of Marion, N. Dak.

Services were held at the A E [illegible: Henry?] Chapel, St. Paul at 9 A M, Sunday July 27, conducted by Rev. M Silseth and at the Lyle Lutheran church at 2 P M, conducted by Rev. Noss of Austin. The deceased was laid to rest in the Mona cemetery.

Attending the services in St. Paul, from outside the Twin Cities, were Seaton Burke at Battle, Lake Minn, Mrs. Ella Miles, Lloyd Miles and Mrs. L A Gilbert of San Antonio Tex., Mr. and Mrs. Everest Nelson of Albert Lea; Mr. and Mrs. L J Henning and Mr. and Mrs. L D Henning of Zumbrota, Mrs. Douglas Campbell and Jean of Atlanta, Ga, Miss Lauretta Clark of Hastings.

Attending the services in Lyle from away were Mrs. E O Lokensgaard and sons Paul and James, Mrs. Jospehine Wietoff, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Olness and daughter, Irene, Mr. and Mrs. A E Slindee, Mr. Carol Anderson of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. A Olson, Joseph Briggs, Miss Della Scott, Miss Gail Henning of St. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Peterson of Wayzata, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Nelson, Nordean Nelson, Mrs. B F Muldown, Miss Hazel Muldown, Mr. Alfred Lerum, Mrs. Norris Gulbrandson, Miss Ada Howard of Albert Lea, Mr. and Mrs. G A Herron of Easton.
