Funeral services for Gilbert Carlson, who passed away so suddenly last Wednesday following a heart attack, were held Saturday, April 5, at the Mona Lutheran church with Pastor S. Stenson officiating with interment in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Gilbert Oliver Carlson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Carlson, was born on May 25, 1888, on a farm south of Mona in Mitchell County, Iowa.

He passed away suddenly of a heart attack at his home April 2, 1958, at [illegible: ?] a.m. at the age of 69 years. He was baptized and confirmed in the Mona Lutheran church by Pastor Eggen, and had since been a life-long member of this congregation.

He attended the Mona public school. He served in World War 1 and was a member of the American Legion at Lyle.

Mr. Carlson was united in marriage to Millie Johnson August 31, 1922. One daughter, Mavis, was born to this union.

He had served on the Mona school board for a number of years and also was custodian of the Mona Lutheran church for nine years. He had always made his home in Otranto township, where he was engaged in farming and trucking.

Mr. Carlson was always willing to lend a helping hand to everyone. He will be greatly missed by everyone in the church and surrounding community.

He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mavis (Mrs. Wayne Hanson); also one sister, Mrs. Nils Anderson of Lyle, two brothers, Rudolph of Austin, Minn., and Raymond of Mona, one niece and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Emma, and three brothers, Charley, Edwin and Godfred.

Relatives attending the funeral from a distance were from Des Moines, Albert Lea, St. Paul, Conger, Minneapolis, Austin, Spencer and Mason City.
