George E. Fossey
(1901 - 1989)

George E. Fossey was born Feb. 2, 1901, in Mitchell County, Iowa, the son of Anton and Olive Fossey.

He graduated from Lyle High School, Lyle, Minn. and the Minnesota School of Business. His marriage to Lulu S. Jacobson took place June 3, 1926, in Austin, Minn. He was a bulk agent for Standard Oil of Indiana for 28 years and was assistant postmaster at Lyle, where he resided until 1985. He moved to Austin, residing at 1401 4th St. SW, No. 220.

Mr. Fossey was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and Men's Lutheran Brotherhood. he had served as a member of the Lyle School Board, was a volunteer fireman, a Boy Scout leader and a charter member of the Lions Club.

He died June 23, 1989, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home, Austin.

Surviving are his wife, Lulu; daughter, Betty Altum, Austin; son and daughter-in-law; Gerald and Lois Fossey, Austin; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; three sisters; a son-in-law; a grandson.

Funeral services were held June 26, 1989, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Lyle, Rev. Harold Luecke officiating. Charles Ekle was soloist and David Dahquist organist.

Interment was in Six Mile Grove Cemetery, Lyle, with pallbearers Mitchell Fossey, Wayne Fossey, Michael Haunsperger, Kaljo Pihelgas, Mitchell Altum, Craig Krueger. Mayer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
