Ervin Helgeson
(1924 - 1896)

Ervin LaVerne Helgeson was born Aug. 22, 1924, in Lyle Township, son of Ole and Clara Helgeson.

He attended Silver Maple School and Austin High School. His marriage to Phyllis J. Dockstader took place June 20, 1948, in Austin. Their home is at Rose Creek, Rt. 1.

Mr. Helgeson resided in Austin from 1948 to 1952, when he moved to rural Lyle. In 1952, he moved to Glenville, Minn., residing there until 1959 when he moved to rural Rose Creek.

He served in World War II from 1945 to 1946 and then was employed by Decker Hardware until 1951. From 1951 to 1986, he was engaged in farming at Lyle, Myrtle and the Rose Creek-Lyle area.

Mr. Helgeson died at 1 a.m. Sept. 30, 1986, at St. Olaf Hospital.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis of Rose Creek; children: Larry and Karen Helgeson, Dale and Dawn Helgeson, Rose Creek; Carol Helgeson, Minneapolis; grandchildren, Shelly, Craig, Cristy, Jamey Helgeson, Rose Cree; brothers and sisters-in-law, Glen and Janice Helgeson, Glenville; Wayne and Rose Helgeson, Lyle; four nieces and nephews, Dennis Helgeson, David Helgeson, Lyle, Elaine Hannam, St. Ansgar; Lyn Helgeson, Glenville, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Clara Helgeson; brother, James.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Oct 1, 1986, at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church, Lyle, Pastor Gaylord Grant officiating. Charles Ekle was soloist and Pam Sampson, organist. Interment was in Six Mile Grove Cemetery with pallbearers Palmer Granholt, Willie Funfar, Duane Enerson, Kenneth Meyer, Russell Sampson, Lowell Arends. Worlein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
