The City Market - Loie Howard

1940-03-15 - "Meat Market Sold to L. Howard Tuesday." John Larson, Lyle butcher for the past 43 years, sold the Lyle meat market, building and good will to Loie Howard, Tuesday. Possession will be given the first of the month. Mr. Howard plans to make some changes and in connection with the meat business will handle a line of groceries and canned goods. In point of continuous service, Mr. Larson was the oldest in the village, having been engaged in the meat business since April 1st 1897.
1940-04-05 - Carpenters have been busy the past week remodeling the interior of the meat market, recently purchased by Loie Howard. Among the improvements are a new floor, and ceiling. The partition between the first and second rooms has been removed. This makes more room for the full line of groceries which will be carried in connection with the meat business.
1940-11-22 - The City Market - L. G. Howard ... We give S. & H. Green Stamps. Eggs taken in trade.
1944-10-20 - "Sold Store and Business" - L. G. Howard sold his building and grocery and meat business Monday to Peter Bassel (sic) of Waterloo, Ia., and will give possession Nov. 1. Mr. Bassel is an experienced meat cutter and will continue handling groceries and meat. The Bassel family has rented part of Mrs. Lena Larson's house. There is a son 14 years old. Mr. Howard has not made definite plans for the future, but it is hoped this family will not move too far from their many Lyle friends. Loie may enlarge his bee business.
1946-01-11 - "Grocery and Meat Shop Sold" - The meat and grocery business and building purchased by Ted Bissell on the 16th of October 1944, from L. G. Howard, was sold last week Friday to Byron B. Bradford of Austin, who took charge Monday. The Bissell family will move to Des Moines where Mr. B. will run an oil station
