Betsy Bothum obituary
MRS. BETSY BOTHUM.
Those who have known Mrs. Bothum would scarcely believe that the neighbors, friends and relatives would so soon be gathered for the purpose of showing their last respects in a funeral service. For over two years she has constantly and tenderly cared for her husband who has been confined to his bed. And few indeed knew that the deceased had been in poor health until they learned that only a few days ago she had gone to Rochester to submit to an operation. This was soon followed by the report that she had passed to the great beyond Saturday evening.
Betsy Bothum was born in Balestrad, Norway, January 6th, 1852 At the age of a year and a half she, with her parents, came to America and settled in Dane county Wis. On November 17th 1871 she was married to Bothel Bothum and came soon afterward with her husband to Mitchell county Iowa where they continued to make their home until about five years ago when the family moved to Lyle. As stated, she has been in poor health for some time and about two weeks ago consulted the doctors at Rochester and about 10 days ago submitted to an operation and finally passed away four days later, Saturday evening May 24th. She was survived by her husband and three daughters of the family of 12 children; Mrs. Iver Hoium and Mrs. S.O. Knutson of North Dakota and Mrs. J. A. Larson of this place. Also a sister Mrs. B. E. Bothum of Thief River Falls, Minn., and one grandson, Lester. Mr. Bothum who has been seriously ill for so long was able to be up and attend the funeral, which took place Wednesday afternoon from the Lutheran church and interment was made in Pleasant Hill cemetery.
