BERTHA MARIE NELSON

Bertha Marie Nelson was born at Waukon, Iowa, May 7th, 1867 and passed away July 21 1936 at her home at the age of 69 yrs, 2 mos and 14 days.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. In 1890, she was married to Ole Hass of Deborah, Iowa. They made Alamakee County, Iowa, their home until 1912, when they moved to a farm near Lyle. There they lived until 1924 when they moved to Lyle which continued to be her home until her death.

To this union, five children were born, four of whom survive: Olger of Church, Iowa; Emma, (Mrs. Louis Gjifle) of Waukon, Iowa., Carl of Lyle, Minn. and Clara (Mrs. Don Henley) of Sterling, Illinois. A son, Theodore, preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1920, at the age of 17 years. Mrs. Haas leaves 8 grandchildren and a brother, Thom. Nelson of Scarville, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at the home Saturday, at 1:30 P. M., and at the Lutheran church at 2 P. M., Rev. Langehough officiating.

The sons and daughters of Mrs. Ole Haas were here Saturday to attend her funeral. Mr. Henley came by airplane from Sterling, Ill. On the return trip, Sunday afternoon, his plane developed engine trouble, when he reached Calmar. His father who resides west of Austin, was summoned, and motored to Calmar, picked up the pilot and delivered him at Sterling, so he was back on the job, Monday morning.
